Letter: Golf courses are exempt from warning residents before spraying

If your readers are interested in their health and welfare, let them click www.voai.org/golf.htm. I allege Florida has committed one of the most horrific cover-ups to the detriment of the residents of our state.

There is a “sensitivity list” of approximately 100 individuals (I am one of three in Martin County) who suffer the ravages of pesticides, fumigants, fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, and so on (not to preclude mosquito spraying). The state of Florida does not notify individuals of same.

Prior to purchasing my home 14 years ago, there was no warning of the dangers of pesticides. Although I have communicated with the administration staff on many occasions over the years, they have refused to issue notices warning the residents of the side effects of chemicals. Green grass and the dollars golfing brings to the club are all that is important

The state classifies golf courses as “agriculture turf/sod farms.” Therefore, golf courses are exempt from warning residents when spraying is to be done.

The only individuals who must be warned 24 hours in advance of chemical applications are listed on the sensitivity list. If you value your family’s health and welfare, please review my site and pass on the information.
